GRAIN OF WHEAT
With units 2 and 3, we dive into the fantastic series My Book House. There are many different versions of the series, and I’ve tried to choose stories that are hopefully in all editions. I own the white version (which are still under copyright) and have used the old, public domain text for The Concise Reader. So, in short, don’t worry too much about which version you have.
My Book House has a mixture of short pieces, like poems, and longer pieces; folk tales, fairy tales, and fables — allowing for some compare-and-contrast with In Fableland. In short, it’s immensely attractive to children while still moving toward a slightly more literary approach to reading, which we’ll pick up even more in the last six units.
